A LITTLE ABOUT ME
First and foremost I am a husband to Jennifer Brown, who recently retired from teaching ACSHS physics, the father of my two beautiful children (Emma and Ben), and the only son of a former Vocational Industrial Arts (shop) teacher. I went to high school at Williamstown High School in northern Kentucky. There I played baseball, was an all-state trombone player in the band, was on the academic team, was on the yearbook staff, was vice president of our student council, served in our Beta Club, and was a 1986 Governor Scholar. In 1987 I graduated from WHS as Salutatorian. After high school, I attended Murray State University in Murray KY where I got my Bachelors and Masters degree in Middle School Science and Math. I have taken classes at Western to achieve my rank I in science education. I have been a 7th-grade science teacher for the last 26 years where I have had over 3300 students in my career so far. I love what I do...teach science and am passionate that every child is a natural born scientist that just needs time to experience the world around them. I started my career with a number of wonderful teachers and staff at Calloway County Middle School. When I met my wife, she was not moving to Murray so I moved to Scottsville. I worked 10 years at Franklin Simpson Middle School, again with wonderful teachers and staff, before taking the position here at Allen Co. in 2010. Again being the lucky one I work with wonderful teachers and staff.
During my career, I have been blessed to serve as president of our state science teachers association and to work with Apple Computer as an Apple Distinguished Educator and staff member of Camp Apple. I have served on the board of NSTA and was president of the Franklin Simpson Excellence in Education Foundation. I have been a middle school and high school softball coach. Currently, I continue to coach our middle school Science Olympiad teams here at James E Bazzell Middle School which I have done for the last 8 years.
